Brodie Reid scored twice and Taran Kozun made 18 saves in a 4-0 victory over the Fife Flyers on Saturday night at Ice Arena Wales.
After a scoreless opening period, Reid opened the scoring after a clever pass from Justin Crandall to find him alone in front of the net. He beat Shane Owen to make it 1-0 at 22:16. Less than a minute later, Josh Waller skated the length of the ice and flew past the Fife defenders to beat Owen to give the Devils a 2-0 lead at 23:12.
At 24:26, the Devils thought they scored on the powerplay, but the goal was waved off for goaltender interference. Brodie Dupont used his coach’s challenge to get it overturned, but after a lengthy video review, the referees stuck with their original call and the goal was washed out. That meant the Devils lost the challenge and were given a minor penalty for delay of game.
At 31:22, Josh Brittain and Fife’s Jonas Emmerdahl dropped the gloves with Brittain winning the fight and getting called with an additional 2+10 minutes for instigating the fight. The Devils penalty killers were on form all night, killing off all 4 powerplays against.
At 44:32, Crandall jammed in a loose puck that squeezed through the legs of Owen after Jake Coughler had tipped a shot from Sam Jardine to put the Devils up 3-0. Then with just over two minutes to play, the Devils scored on the powerplay with Brittain setting up Reid for his second goal of the game, making it 4-0 at 57:48.
