Cody Donaghey scored twice, and Ben Bowns stopped 35 shots for his third league shutout this season in a 4-0 win over the Guildford Flames on Saturday night.
Josh Waller opened the scoring less than 5 minutes into the game, finishing off a cross-ice pass from Trevor Cox to make it 1-0 at 4:56. Donaghey made it 2-0 on the powerplay with a perfect shot over the shoulder of Eamon McAdam with assists going to Cole Ully and Bode Wilde. The Devils had to kill a 5 on 3 advantage for the Flames, which they did on the back of some huge saves from Bowns to preserve the 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Donaghey scored his second of the game and his second on the powerplay at 33:07, converting on a feed from Cox. With 15 seconds left in the period, Josh Batch stepped up to pick off a pass inside the Flames zone and chipped the puck to Joey Martin who sent Cole Sanford in on a breakaway to beat McAdam and make it 4-0.
Marcus Crawford dropped the gloves with Ryan Hughes 26 seconds into the final period and both sat 5 minutes for fighting. The Flames pressed to spoil the shutout, but Bowns was in top form and the one puck that got behind him was swept away by a Devils defenceman to keep the scoreline 4-0.
