The 25 year old American has been playing with Lillehammer in the top Norwegian league this season and departs his team as their second highest scorer. In 39 games he had 10 goals and 25 assists for 35 points this season, his first as a professional. Prior to joining Lillehammer, he spent 5 seasons in the NCAA, the last two with the University of Alaska-Anchorage where he led his team in scoring in his final year.

"Finding a player at this time of year is not easy, but we are lucky that things worked out with Almquist.
“Ben skates really well, has good hands and has had a really solid first professional season in the top league in Norway following on from a impressive career in the NCAA.
“He works hard for the team, has offensive ability and has powerplay talent in his game.
"With the guys we are going to be missing long term, he is a welcome addition to the group and we are looking forward to him being part of it the last two months of the season.”
Ben Almquist will be on the ice with his new teammates on Tuesday and is expected to be cleared to play this weekend in Belfast. He will wear number 12 for the Devils.
