The Cardiff Devils have added Canadian Brad Schoonbaert for the remainder of the season.
The 27-year-old forward was most recently with the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL. Last season, his first-year pro, he scored 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 43 games for the Mavericks. The Devils were looking at him two seasons ago when he finished his university career, and he has been on their radar ever since.
Pete Russell spoke about the signing:
“Brad is a good character and that was really important for us in our search to strengthen our group. He is joining us from one of the top teams in the ECHL.
“He is a two way forward who plays a smart game. He is responsible, plays with good habits and has great work ethic. He has the game to play in all situations, even strength and special teams.Schoonbaert with University of Calgary (photo credit UC Dinos Athletics) “He will be a welcome addition to our group and will add something different. We are delighted he is coming to join the Devils for the second half of the season.”
Schoonbaert will wear number 15 for the Devils, the number last worn by defenceman Marcus Crawford who is currently playing in Kansas City where Schoonbaert is coming from.
He will fly in this weekend and will be in the lineup for the Continental Cup games next week.
