Devils to celebrate career of one of the all-time greats next summer

The Cardiff Devils are pleased to confirm that Joey Martin will have his Testimonial with the club on Saturday 14th June 2025.
Martin originally signed with the Devils ahead of the 2014-15 season, the year that the current ownership took over the club. He became an instant fan favourite, leading the team in scoring that season and being named a First Team All-Star and EIHL Forward of the Year.
He was named a First Team All-Star five times in a row, winning Forward of the Year 3 times and League MVP twice. Along the way, he led the Devils to two Challenge Cup Titles, Two League Championships and two Playoff Championships.

He would have never left Cardiff if it wasn’t for Covid ending the 2019-20 season early and cancelling the following season entirely. After two years away, he returned to Cardiff for the 2022-23 season and picked up where he left off, scoring 56 points in 53 league games.
“Joey Martin has been the most impactful import player in the Elite League over the last decade,” said Managing Director Todd Kelman.
“We have a handful of guys remaining from our first season when we took over, but only one import. He has been the heartbeat of this club every season he played here and will retire at some point as the greatest Cardiff Devil in franchise history.

“He is also one of the best human beings I have ever been lucky enough to have on a team. He has embraced this city and this team since day one and this club means everything to him.
“He would have been a Devil for his entire career if Covid hadn’t hit in 2020 and cancelled the following season. He was in the middle of a long-term deal and when he came back to us two seasons ago, he told me this was the last team he will ever play for in pro hockey.”
“Joey is in the final year of his contract with us and whether he decides to keep playing is a choice he will make at the end of the season. It’s in his hands, we will have him here until he tells us he doesn’t want to play anymore.

“Ben Bowns is also due his Testimonial and he is currently on his third year of a four-year deal so 2025-26 will be his Testimonial year.
“Back-to-back testimonials for two of the greatest Cardiff Devils ever. We are excited for both guys and they both deserve to be celebrated for the careers they have had and everything they have given to this club.”
