The race for the league title is over, but the battle for the final three playoff spots came down to the last weekend of the regular season.
The Fife Flyers victory over the Dundee Stars last night means they have clinched one of the three remaining playoff spots, which leaves 4 teams who could all still squeak into the last two spots with wins tonight.
Here’s the scenarios you need to know (home teams listed first):
GLASGOW CLAN v CARDIFF DEVILS – A Devils win tonight, and the Clan are out. Glasgow needs a win to get in, but they also need either Coventry or Dundee to lose. The puck drops at 5:00pm. Watch it live - CLICK HERE
FIFE FLYERS v DUNDEE STARS – The Flyers won last night in Dundee to clinch a playoff spot. Dundee’s playoff hopes are in their own hands and a win tonight will see them through to the postseason, but they could still get into the playoffs if they lose and so do both Glasgow and Nottingham.
NOTTINGHAM PANTHERS v MANCHESTER STORM – The Panthers are in dead last right now, but their win last night in Manchester means they still have a chance to get into the playoffs. They absolutely need to win, but they also need some help from other teams. If they pull off a win over the Storm, then they need two of the three teams above them in the standings (Coventry, Dundee, Glasgow) to lose.
COVENTRY BLAZE v GUILDFORD FLAMES – If Coventry can win their final home league game tonight, then they are in. A loss to the Flames and wins for two of the three teams below them (Dundee, Glasgow, Nottingham) would put the Blaze out. Just to confuse you even more - if the Blaze lose and Glasgow or Nottingham win, and Dundee lose in overtime, that is as good as a win for the Stars in this scenario because they would jump ahead of the Blaze in the standings.
